Private tours in Agrigento

Private tours are most useful when a group wants an archaeological guide at its own pace or wants to combine the Valley of the Temples with Scala dei Turchi. “Private” describes who shares the service, not what it contains: some products are guided visits, others are driver-led day routes or transport.

Good to know: Compare group price with the number travelling and check whether admission is extra. A private driver is not automatically licensed to guide inside the archaeological park. For combined coast-and-temple days, ask how much time is actually spent at each stop; road and parking time can consume a large part of the itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento city centre?

No. The archaeological park lies below the modern hill town. Agrigento Centrale and the old town are uphill; use a local bus, taxi or car and check which park entrance your ticket or tour uses.

Can I visit Scala dei Turchi from Agrigento?

Yes, but it is on the coast by Realmonte rather than in Agrigento itself. Boats, e-bikes and combined tours approach it differently. Access to the white rock can be restricted, so check current local information.

Does Agrigento have a beach?

The urban centre is inland on a hill. San Leone is Agrigento’s seaside district; Porto Empedocle and Realmonte lie along the same coast. A city-centre hotel is therefore not a walk-to-the-beach base.

Do I need a car in Agrigento?

Not for the old town and Valley of the Temples if you use buses or taxis. A car becomes useful for Scala dei Turchi, Torre Salsa, wineries and smaller coastal places, where public transport is less convenient.

Is Agrigento a good base for Mount Etna?

No. Etna, Catania and Taormina are on the other side of Sicily. Agrigento is a stronger base for Greek archaeology, the southern coast, Sciacca and rural food experiences.

How much time should I allow for the temples?

Treat the archaeological park as a substantial visit, not a quick city sight. The grounds are exposed and spread out; guided products commonly focus on a selected route, while an independent visit can take longer.
